CocktaiIs With Shayon Francis

Shayon Francis

Corporal of Police, Jamaica Constabulary Force

Social media manager for JCF

Jamaica’s top female pistol shooter

Brand Ambassador for Spectrum Systems Ltd

Style Observer (SO): Which five words best describe Shayon Francis?

Shayon Francis (SF): Determined, resilient, selfless, confident, empowered.

SO: Did you choose the JCF or did they choose you?

SF: I definitely chose the JCF! I did community service at the Morant Bay Police Station and when my time was up I volunteered until a position was available. Then the JCF had a recruitment drive so I went ahead, did the test and was successful.

SO: Any regrets?

SF: None whatsoever! It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life.

SO: What would your advice be to women on a career in the Jamaica Constabulary Force?

SF: Further your education and never give up an opportunity to make a positive change in your life or the lives of others.

SO: How do you relax after a stressful week?

SF: I go to the range and have a great time then I have a Crunchie Munchie Devon House ice cream!

SO: What’s your preference… An evening in or out?

SF: An evening out.

SO: Room service or reservations at a restaurant?

SF: Reservation at a restaurant.

SO: What’s your beverage of choice?

SF: An Appleton Sunrise

SO: Tell us about your beauty routine.

SF: Firstly, I always aim for at least eight hours of rest at night. On a regular day, I use Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, Noxzema, La Roche-Posay sunscreen followed by some moisturiser and sunscreen. Once I get a fresh face, that’s the start of a confident and productive day.

SO: What are your make-up essentials?

SF: My make-up essentials must include Maybelline New York Foundation, LA Girl Pro Face powder and the must-have Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Heat in Hot Cherry.

SO: What are your preferred fashion labels?

SF: Louis Vuitton, Coach, Michael Kors, Bridget Sandals.

SO: Who’s your preferred reggae artiste?

SF: Definitely Beres Hammond.

SO: Share with us a few career highlights.

SF: Graduating from university, coming out top female in the 2024 Florida State Championship. Selected to represent Jamaica at the 2025 World Shoot in South Africa.

SO: From being afraid of the gun to copping gold at the Florida State Championship… What motivates you and how are you preparing for the World Shoot Games in South Africa?

SF: The people who continue to remind me that I am capable of winning regardless of the challenges I’m facing.

I stepped up my training and have been practising every chance I get. The aim is to win, so I have my eyes set on that only.

SO: Are there any career moves on the horizon?

SF: Yes, I am in my final year doing a Master of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communications at The UWI, Mona…working towards getting a distinction.

SO: Finally, what’s your personal credo?

SF: Never stop until you get it done! Being the determined individual I am, I will continue to work until I get whatever I want done.
