Cornwall College, Ocho Rios High advance to the Round of 32 in the ISSA daCosta Cup

Former champions Cornwall College and Clarendon College as well as Ocho Rios High all made safe passage to the Round of 32 in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after Saturday’s round of matches.

Cornwall College and Clarendon College had wins over St James High and Lennon High respectively, while Ocho Rios High confirmed their place from Zone K after the results in two other games.

The trio joins Mannings School and Cedric Titus High who had booked their second round berths on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Munro College, a quarter-finalist last season, failed to get into the Zone E play-offs as they finished on eight points, edged by Maggotty High and Lacovia High who joined early qualifiers BB Coke High and St Elizabeth Technical.

Cornwall College atoned for their 0-0 draw against St James High in the first round as they ran out easy 4-0 winners at Jarrett Park with Carlondo Morris scoring a brace to celebrate his return to the team after a two-game ban.

Kayvon Donaldson had given Cornwall College the lead while Mekhi Foster scored the other as Cornwall College improved to 19 points, three more than second-placed Maldon High.

Clarendon College rushed past Lennon High 7-0 in their game that was postponed from Friday due to bad weather. They are on 16 points at the top of Zone H, three more than Central High who beat Edwin Allen High 3-1 and are a point away from qualifying.

Ocho Rios High, one of two schools to win their first seven games, along with Manchester High, confirmed their place in the Round of 32 after second-placed York Castle and third-placed Ferncourt High played out a 1-1 draw.

Ocho Rios had beaten Discovery Bay High 13-0 on Friday to improve to 21 points.

Maggotty High and Lacovia High accompanied BB Coke and St Elizabeth Technical into the Zone E play-offs after drawing their games.

Maggotty High drew 0-0 with St Elizabeth Technical and Lacovia ended 1-1 against BB Coke, both ending on nine points each as Munro College who beat Newell High, ended on eight points and missed out.

Defending champions Garvey Maceo High and Glenmuir High both won their games 3-0; Reece Roman scored a double to lead Garvey Maceo in their win over Winston Jones High, with Tyreek McKenley scoring the other goal.
