Racing, Montego Bay hunt wins in JPL
Leaders Racing United will seek to rebound from last weekend’s draw when they host Tivoli Gardens in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) match at Dunbeholden Sports Complex, set to start at 3:30 pm.
Racing United’s perfect start was cut short after they were held 0-0 by Dunbeholden FC in their last outing. They will be hoping to start another run of wins when they take on a Tivoli Gardens team that has won just once in five games.
Elsewhere, third-placed Montego Bay United will be hoping to shake off last weekend’s loss to Portmore United
— their first defeat of the season
— when they host newcomers Spanish Town Police in the second game of a double header at Montego Bay Sports Complex. In the 4:30 pm opener at the venue, Treasure Beach FC and Harbour View are set to meet.
Racing have beaten Tivoli Gardens just once in three meetings, all coming in the previous season. They lost the other two clashes against Tivoli Gardens, but so far this season they have shown impressive form.
The Anthony Patrick-coached Racing United, who are expected to take the game to Tivoli Gardens, have scored 11 times this season, tied for most goals with Arnett Gardens.
Of the 11 goals they have scored, five players have scored two each. On the other hand, Tivoli Gardens have managed just five goals while conceding seven.
Last week, Montego Bay United failed to find the back of the net for the first time this season. But they are expected to bounce back from that disappointment and give the Spanish Town team plenty of problems.
Montego Bay United will be going after a third-straight home win at a venue where they have scored six of their 10 goals. But they cannot take the newcomers for granted.
Despite four losses in a row to start the season before earning their first point in a 0-0 result against Chapelton Maroons last weekend, Spanish Town Police can take confidence in their improvement in their last two outings. They scored their maiden goal of the season and also earned their first point.
It might be a quantum leap to expect them to get their first win this evening, however, as they face a potent strike force led by Jourdain Fletcher and Dwight Merrick, both of whom have scored three times so far.
In the first game at the venue both Treasure Beach and Harbour View, on four points each, will be desperate for a win.
Harbour View, who have played four games, are coming off a come-from-behind win over Waterhouse. Treasure Beach, who have played five matches, have picked up a point from their last three games.
On Monday, another JPL double header is on the cards, with Molynes United going up against Portmore United and Waterhouse FC facing Chapelton Maroons at Drewsland Stadium.
