Seville in recovery after undergoing toe procedure
Oblique Seville, the men’s 100m gold medallist at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, underwent a procedure to remove the nail from both big toes and will need up to four weeks to recover, the Sunday Observer was told.
The operation was done on Thursday by consultant orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine physician Dr Akshai Mansingh.
Norman Peart, Seville’s agent, confirmed on Saturday that the procedure successfully “removed both big toenails that were getting to the ingrown stage”.
Peart added: “[Seville] will need a month to recover and head back to training right after.”
The 24-year-old Jamaican won his first senior individual gold medal when he beat a strong field on the second day of the championships, running a personal best 9.77 seconds (0.3m/s), tied 10th best clocking of all times.
Seville’s gold medal broke Jamaica’s near decade-long drought in any individual men’s sprint event at the global level since Usain Bolt won the double at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
His compatriot, Kishane Thompson, who has the world-leading time of 9.75 that he ran at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association National Championships in June, was second in Tokyo with 9.82. American Noah Lyles, the 2023 winner, was third with 9.89.
