Flooding forces temporary closure of MLSS Harbour Street office
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) has announced the temporary closure of its Harbour Street office following severe flooding caused by heavy rains over the weekend.
According to a release from the ministry, the office sustained significant water damage, prompting an immediate response from staff and cleaning crews who worked late into the night to begin restoration efforts.
Despite the clean-up, the office will remain closed to the public on Monday, September 29, to allow for the completion of necessary safety checks and final cleaning. The ministry anticipates that normal operations will resume on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
In the meantime, social workers will continue to operate in the field to support clients, and urgent matters can be directed to the ministry’s Client Care Centre at (876) 922-8000-13 or via email at clientcare@mlss.gov.jm.
The ministry has expressed its gratitude to staff members for their dedication and hard work and is appealing to the public for patience and understanding during this time.
“We regret any inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciate the public’s continued cooperation,” the statement read.
