Andrew ‘French’, two others found guilty in $222-m InSports fraud case
Andrew Wright, O’Neil Hope and Rudolph Barnes, the three men accused of defrauding the Institute of Sport (InSports), were on Tuesday found guilty of multiple charges.
The charges relate to an investigation dating back to 2017 which found $222 million to have been defrauded from the governmental agency.
Supreme Court Justice Ann-Marie Lawrence-Grainger found Wright, who served as a financial controller for InSports, guilty of 13 counts of fraud. Wright, popularly known as Andrew ‘French’, is a renowned promoter of the French Connection and Chug It party series.
Barnes was found guilty of 11 counts, while Hope was found guilty of eight.
Two of three females involved in the case, Sherene Farquharson and Andrea Picton, were acquitted but Karita Davis, who is alleged to have facilitated the cashing of fraudulent cheques on behalf of Wright, remains at large.
The three men have been remanded until their sentencing on November 21.
