Four Jamaicans to compete in 2025 Caribbean Elite Road Cycling Championships in Belize
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Four national cyclists will depart the island next week for Belize to participate in the 2025 Caribbean Elite Road Cycling Championships from October 9th to 13th.
The team comprises Andrey Ramsay, Jaequan Dixon, Melvin McFarlane, Llori Sharpe and Coach Carlton Simmonds.
Team Jamaica will face a strong field of riders from 15 Caribbean countries, competing for qualifying spots for the 2026 Caribbean and Central American (CAC) Games in Santo Domingo, from July 24th to August 8th.
The Jamaica Cycling Federation says Ramsay, a seasoned rider and past national champion, has participated in previous Caribbean championships and is prepared for the challenge, whereas McFarlane, a newcomer to racing, made his debut at the 2025 National Championship in July and clipped Ramsay for the national title.
Both McFarlane and Ramsay will race as an elite, while Dixon will race as a U23. They are expected to perform credibly, aiming to earn their spot for the CAC Games.
Meanwhile, Sharpe, the federation revealed, has just recovered from an injury sustained when she was struck from her bike by a motorist, but is preparing to defend her title at the championships and secure a spot for the CAC games.
Simmonds is confident the team’s physical and mental preparation will put them in contention for top spots at the championships.
