WILLIAM Knibb Memorial and Manchester High secured their places in the Round of 32 of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after wins over Troy High and May Day High, respectively, on Tuesday.

They joined five others who advanced earlier.

However Maldon High, Rusea’s High and Petersfield High will have to wait at least another game before they can book their places in the second round.

William Knibb Memorial joined Cedric Titus High from Zone D after a 3-0 win at Troy High, with Jaheem Brown scoring a double and Kaheel Campbell getting the other. William Knibb improved to 15 points, one behind Cedric Titus High.

Jevohntae Gordon and Jahleel McKenzie both scored twice as Manchester High (24 points) cruised to an 8-0 victory, their eighth-consecutive win.

Shamone Reynolds, Conrod Messam, Devontaye Vidal and a May Day own goal were the other contributors for Manchester. They need only a point from their next two games to win the zone.

Maldon High were upset 0-1 by Herbert Morrison Technical as they came up short on their second attempt at qualifying from Zone A. Zamunda Brown scored a first-half goal in Herbert Morrison’s win.

Maldon High remain in second place on 16 points — six behind leaders Cornwall College who beat Irwin High 5-1. Shakeem Gibson led Cornwall with a hat-trick in his first game of the season while Shaheem Bernard and Carlondo Morris got the other goals.

Cornwall College need a point from their other two games to win the Zone.

Rusea’s High (18 points) finished with nine players and Frome Technical (14 points) finished with 10 in their 1-1 result in the top-of-the-table Zone B game at Frome Sports Club.

Roshawn Dillion gave Rusea’s the lead in the 15th minute before Frome equalised in the 79th minute.

Both teams played with 10 players each from the 20th minute, when Romario Clarke of Frome and Tiaunte Williams of Rusea’s were sent off.

Rusea’s went down to nine players in the 54th minute when Daniel Sterling picked up his second yellow card.

Cambridge High, who beat Anchovy High 3-2 at Jarrett Park, moved into joint second place with Frome Technical.

On Wednesday, the zonal play-offs will start in Zones E and G following the completion of the first round of matches last weekend.

In Zone E, BB Coke High, who topped the points table, are to take on Lacovia High, and St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) are to play Maggotty High at Appleton Sports Club.

In Zone G, Christiana High and Knox College are set to meet at Kirkvine Sports Club, and Alphansus Davis High and Holmwood Technical are to square off at Alphansus Davis.
