Christiana High, Alphansus Davis book spots in D’Cup Round of 32
MANCHESTER, Jamaica – Christiana High and Alphansus Davis High, both booked their places in the Round of 32 in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after wins over Knox College and Holmwood Technical respectively, in their Zone G play-off games on Wednesday.
Christiana High beat Knox College 2-1 at Kirkvine Sports Club, their second win over Knox College after their 2-0 win the first round and moved them to 21 points.
Alphansus Davis High were 3-1 winners over Holmwood to avenge their loss in the first round and improved to 19 points leaving the two losing teams on Wednesday to battle out for the remaining qualifying spot.
Ten schools have now qualified for the second round as Christiana High and Alphansus Davis High will join, Cornwall College, Manning’s School, Cedric Titus and William Knibb Memorial, Manchester High, Central High, Clarendon College and Ocho Rios High as the teams that have already secured their places in the second round.
Also on Wednesday, both games in the Zone E play-offs ended in 1-1 draw scorelines.
Leaders BB Coke High were held by Lacovia High, while 10- man St Elizabeth Technical, gave up a first-half lead and were held by Maggotty High.
Converted goalkeeper Kimmari Roach who came off the bench to score two goals against Sydney Pagon a week ago, gave STETHS the lead in the 42 nd minute but Andre Philpotts scored for Maggotty High in the 84 th minute.
STETHS had been playing with 10 men from the 74th minute after Kenoy Banton was dismissed after he was shown a second yellow card when he attempted to prevent Maggotty High from taking a quick throw in.
