Manchester High break D’Cup first round goals record with a game to spare
MANCHESTER, Jamaica – Manchester High broke the record for most goals in the first round of the ISSA daCosta Cup with a match still to be played, after beating deCarteret College 10-0 in their return game on Saturday.
Manchester have scored 69 goals in their first nine games in Zone F.
They broke the record of 68 goals that the 2015 Manchester High team, coached by Donovan Duckie, held jointly with Rusea’s High’s 2011 side.
With a game to go against Mt St Joseph Catholic on Wednesday, Manchester High, one of three teams with perfect records left in the competition, along with Cedric Titus High and Mannings School, should add even more to the record.
On Saturday, they scored double digits in a game for the second time this season after beating Cross Keys High 19-0 on September 25 and have scored at least eight goals in one game on three other occasions.
In 2015, they had one double digit game, beating Winston Jones High 20-0 in a return round game after beating them 8-0 in the first round.
Meanwhile, the Rusea’s High team that scored 68 goals in the first round in 2011 is the most prolific team in the preceding decade in a season where six teams scored at last 43 goals in the first round.
St Elizabeth Technical was the most prolific in the first round that season with 64 goals, Clarendon College scored 55, Frome Technical scored 47, Denbigh High had 44 and Lennon High had 43.
