I-Octane maintains buzz with latest single, Walk With A Chip
Having spent several months atop various global digital streaming charts, I-Octane is still heavily promoting his God & I album with a new single Walk With A Chip.
The track, produced by Zum of Good Good Productions alongside I-Octane’s Conquer The Globe Productions, is a lesson in perseverance and power.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer I-Octane said the track, which now has accompanying visuals directed by BlingBlang Works, was born through a need to stay connected with his fans through his real-life experiences.
“This song is me being real with my fans. We all have a ‘chip’ we walk with, whether it’s memories or painful experiences. I know a lot of my saddest, yet most powerful lessons came through some of those moments. Whether it was from trusting people I thought had my back, but they didn’t, or from career experiences that taught me to go even harder. Instead of letting it break me, I use the experiences to push me beyond all limits,” he said.
The entertainer shared that, having seen how well the album has performed, he will be looking to take the body of work all the way to the Grammys. He told the Observer that with first-round voting beginning last Friday, a nomination would be the proverbial icing on the cake as he believes 2025 saw him solidifying his place in dancehall.
“[The year] 2025 is almost coming to an end, and I can honestly say it was one of my best years musically. I solidified myself in different departments in the music industry, had some great songs, and to put emphasis on this album, God & I, since its release, it has been topping charts. Went #1 several times on the iTunes chart and top 5 consistently over the past few months. That has brought a lot of attention in terms of people loving the album, and it really made the Grammy submission easier,” he said.
“This album is definitely a Grammy-winning album. The proof of the quality is there. Every single person who listened to the God & I album had nothing bad to say, just great reviews. It really is a great album and I think it’s the best out so far,” he continued. “Everyone is doing great, but this, in my perspective, is the best album out, and I say that without apology, not because it’s me do it but it’s really a great project.”
Revisiting his longing to strengthen his relationship with God, I-Octane said a Grammy nomination would prove that rewards are inevitable once one puts God first.
“A Grammy nomination would be a great accomplishment for me because this project is very sentimental to me. It’s really a connection back with the Almighty and a repentant kind of vibration. Over the years, I put power into human beings, and then my expectations grew and they failed the mission I thought they would accomplish with me and for me, then I get disappointed,” he explained. “I took back that power from human beings and invest it into the creator himself and rebuilt a connection with him, and so a Grammy nomination would be a great reward on top of that reconnection and positive vibration.”
The product eligibility period for the 2026 Grammy Awards ended on August 30. The nominees after Friday’s initial voting process are to be announced on November 7, with the final round of voting taking place between December 12 and January 5.
The 2026 Grammy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, February 1, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
I-Octane, despite his illustrious career, has never been nominated for a Grammy.
Even as he eyes the Grammys, I-Octane admits that, despite his accomplishments for 2025, he still has a lot to do before the year ends. Outlining that evolution should be innate for artistes, the entertainer said he is looking forward to even more growth as he closes out an exceptional year.
“This was one of the first times throughout my music career where I really just took the time out to focus on one particular project, and I’m going to continue doing the work. I haven’t accomplished everything I wanted for the year yet because life is about evolution and growth, and I always see things I can change and improve,” he said. “It’s not 100 per cent, so we always have different goals and milestones and are finding other ways to reinvent ourselves and the brand.
