STETHS, Dinthill lead seven more into daCosta second round

SEVEN schools, including former champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Dinthill Technical, booked their spots in the Round of 32 in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after scoring wins on Saturday.

Twenty-one schools have now secured their places in the second round that is set to kick off next weekend.

Also yesterday, Manchester High romped to a 10-0 whipping of deCarteret College to win their ninth-straight game in Zone F, scoring 69 goals in the process.

In addition to STETHS and Dinthill Technical, Petersfield High, BB Coke High, Kemps Hill High, McGrath High and Port Antonio High all made progress.

Petersfield High beat Lewisville High 6-1 to improve to 15 points and join Zone C winners Manning’s School, who eliminated Black River High by beating them 4-0 in their game.

Kajaye Williams, Jarvis Meylor, Jodon Grey and Dainton Williams scored for Manning’s, who have scored 43 goals and are yet to concede.

BB Coke High edged Maggotty High 2-1 to move to 18 points, two more than STETHS who were 3-1 winners over Lacovia High in their play-off games, as both took the first two places from Zone E.

Both Maggotty and Lacovia will meet in the final game of the first round to decide the third qualifiers.

Kemps Hill continued their giant killing run, edging defending champions Garvey Maceo 1-0 to take the third qualifying spot from the Zone I play-offs.

Kemps Hill beat Glenmuir by the same margin on Thursday.

Garvey Maceo and Glenmuir, who drew 0-0 with Denbigh in the other play-off game, booked their spots earlier.

McGrath, a finalist last season, drew 1-1 with Old Harbour to move to 16 points, and Dinthill crushed Tacius Golding High 14-0 to get to 15 points as both took the qualifying spots from Zone J.

Port Antonio booked their spot from Zone M with a 10-1 win over Horace Clarke High to improve to an unassailable 25 points.

In Mandeville, Jevohntae Gordon scored four times to lead Manchester to their win over deCarteret, with Shamone Reynolds and Orane Wright scoring two each and Devontaye Vidal and Troydian Flemmings scoring one goal each.

In the first game of the double-header, Miguel Harrison also scored four goals to lead Belair High to a 5-0 win over Mount St Joseph Catholic School.

May Day are, however,in second place after a 7-0 win over Cross Keys.

Cedric Titus are a point away from winning Zone D after their 5-0 win over Troy High, with Terron Eccleston scoring four times and Sheon Gray getting the other.

Fresh from scoring a hat-trick on his debut on Tuesday, Shakeem Gibson scored a second-half double for Cornwall College as they beat Maldon 4-1 to win Zone A.

Marcane Gooden and Carlondo Morris gave Cornwall College a 2-0 half-time lead as Maldon failed for a third-straight game to clinch a spot in the second round.
