Raddesh Roman hits 100th winner of the season
CHAMPION jockey Raddesh “Sneaky Fox” Roman stole the limelight at the races on Sunday, notching his 100th winner of the season aboard He Stands Alone on the 10-race programme.
The impressive feat came in the fifth race at Caymanas Park, a Restricted Allowance V contest featuring native-bred five-year-olds and up (non-winners of two) and imported five-year-olds and up (maidens), contested over the straight five furlongs (1000m).
Trained by Gary Crawford, He Stands Alone put on a strong show to win by a half-length ahead of Storm Boy (Ramon Nepare) and Jet Ski Girl (guided by Jemar Jackson). The final time for the race was 1:04.0 (25.0 x 49.3).
Already riding high with 98 winners heading into Sunday’s card, Roman swiftly built momentum. He laid the groundwork for his milestone with a win aboard Tigeramedat (conditioned by Anthony Nunes) in the day’s third race, setting the stage for further triumphs.
Roman then authored a hat-trick masterpiece, guiding Bootylicious to victory in the prestigious Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup, a $1.25-million Division 1 showcase sprint over five furlongs straight. Trained by Peter-John Parsard, Bootylicious stormed home three lengths clear in a scintillating time of 59.3 seconds.
Division 2 of the Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup was won by Get A Pepsi, trained by Robert Pearson and ridden by Richard Henry. Get A Pepsi won by 2¼ lengths in 58.3.
Racing is scheduled to continue on Saturday.
