During a gathering on Tuesday, Principal Leecent Wallace reflected on Sergeant’s short but meaningful time at the school, noting the impression she made on those around her.
“Her presence, though short-lived, left an impact on those who crossed paths with her,” Wallace said.
He shared that her passing served as a painful reminder of how precious life is.
“Her passing reminds us of the fragility of life, and it underscores the importance of cherishing every moment, every interaction, every opportunity to connect with one another,” he said.
Emphasising the seriousness of the matter, the principal urged students to reflect on the severity of the matter stating “it could have been any one of you”.
“We grieve her loss and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, her friends and her loved ones.”
He also encouraged students to seek emotional support and to remember Sergeant.
“Take space to process your emotions. I want you to seek help from the counsellors who are present here today…and to remember Shantina with the compassion and dignity she deserves,” he said.
The police are now searching for the teen’s father to assist with investigations into her death.
