JUTC confirms driver found unresponsive in ditch has died
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) has confirmed that one of its drivers died on Wednesday after the bus he was driving crashed into a ditch.
In a statement, the company said the incident involved one of its buses in the Dunbeholden area of St Catherine.
According to preliminary information, a police officer observed a JUTC bus off the Salt Pond roadway in a ditch, and the operator appeared to be unresponsive.
Lawmen rendered immediate assistance and transported the driver to the Spanish Town Hospital, where the operator was pronounced dead.
Police confirmed to Observer Online that the 39-year-old driver died from injuries he sustained in the crash and that the bus was empty at the time.
The JUTC expressed sincere condolences to the driver’s loved ones and said it will be providing grief counselling to his colleagues.
