WATCH: Nursing students receive laptops from Richard and Diana Stewart Foundation

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Nursing students at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona have received 40 new laptops from the Richard and Diana Stewart Foundation to assist with their academic journey.

The handing-over ceremony took place at the Faculty of Medical Sciences on Monday.

Head of the Richard and Diana Foundation, Diana Stewart, commended the students for their dedication and service, describing them as “quiet heroes in moments of crisis”.

“You have been the steady hands in emergencies and the compassionate voices of reassurance when families need it most,” Stewart said. “While the heart of nursing will always be human care, the tools of nursing are changing very rapidly. Technology is now an essential part of patient care from digital health records to telemedicine.”

She emphasised that access to technology is crucial to how nursing students learn, research and prepare for all that comes with the profession.

“This is more than just a donation of equipment; it is an investment in your future,” Stewart said. “We know that these devices will help you conduct research, complete assignments, collaborate with peers, and continue your studies with the efficiency and flexibility the modern world requires.”

She added that the donation reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting education and empowering Jamaica’s future healthcare professionals.

“On behalf of the Stewart’s Automotive Group and the Foundation, it is my honour to officially hand over these laptops to the nursing programme at UWI,” she said. “May they serve you well, and may you continue to serve with excellence, compassion and pride.”
