‘A bullfrog the Epworth people dem up there a drink,’ says PNP councillor
ST ANN, Jamaica – Councillor Ian Bell, (People’s National Party, Beecher Town Division) is lamenting the lack of urgency by the St Ann Municipal Corporation to repair the main water catchment tank in the Epworth community.
Bell said the tank, which is the only source of potable water, has been contaminated by remains of dead frogs.
Bell was speaking during the monthly sitting of the St Ann Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
The councillor stated that the matter has been repeatedly reported to the municipal corporation but nothing substantial has been done.
Two weeks ago, chief engineering officer at the corporation, Saad Williams, visited the site in an effort to ascertain the state of the tank and the cost to undertake repairs.
Saad, however, told the meeting that full restoration would “take more time”, noting that the plan is to undertake remedial work.
“We understand the situation there is a provision being made to do remedial work to assist the process. We will be covering the tank with zincs so the frogs won’t be able to get in. It will also be cleaned and patched, then we will do the extensive work,” said Saad.
Mayor of St Ann’s Bay Michael Belnavis, also stated that the work on the tank should be done in short order.
“We had a meeting and discussions were made to have it cleaned so I’m certain it will happen before the weekends,” he said
