Honey Bun named ‘Inclusivity Champion’
HONEY Bun 1982 Limited was named the Inclusivity Champion at the 2025 Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA) Manufacturers and Exporters (M&E) Awards Gala, held Saturday night at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.
The award, introduced in 2024, recognises companies that lead in creating fair and inclusive workplaces — breaking barriers and fostering cultures where everyone can thrive.
“This award means a lot to us because it focuses on people, not just products or processes,” said Daniel Chong, the new CEO of Honey Bun Limited.
“It reflects the values on which Honey Bun was founded over 40 years ago — creating opportunity, valuing every person’s potential, and building with purpose,” added Chong.
Honey Bun’s inclusive hiring practice, to promote recruitment based on ability rather than disability, was formalised in 2024 through partnerships with the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities, Ready to Sign, and the Ministry of Labour.
This approach aligns with Jamaica’s Disabilities Act and includes workshops to enhance staff communication with the deaf community.
“Equal access and opportunity are not special treatments, they are basic rights,” said Flona Brooks, human resource manager at Honey Bun.
“We are committed to removing barriers and helping every Jamaican feel seen, supported and empowered to grow,” added Brooks.
Honey Bun currently employs individuals with both visible and invisible disabilities, with some employees quickly advancing within the company.
