NEW YORK, USA — The grandeur of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan set the stage for the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) to recognise the work of Joseph “Joe” Bogdanovich, CEO of Downsound Entertai
nment, producers of Reggae Sumfest, and Jason Henzell, founder of BREDS Foundation and chairman of Jake’s Hotel.

The black-tie gala brought together a distinguished gathering of politicians, diplomats, philanthropists, business leaders, and members of the Jamaican Diaspora, all united in celebration of individuals making extraordinary contributions to Jamaica’s growth and global recognition.

The International Achievement Awards were presented by Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s minister of tourism, and Wendy Hart, president of the AFJ.

“This award means so much because it represents Jamaica; its people, its power, its passion,” Bogdanovich said in his acceptance speech. “Moving to Jamaica changed my life, and everything I’ve done since has been driven by my love for this country and its music. Reggae is more than a genre; it’s a movement that connects hearts across the world. I’m humbled to play a part in that.”

Bogdanovich’s recognition highlighted his pioneering work in Jamaican entertainment, most notably through Reggae Sumfest, which he has elevated into a global festival celebrating the island’s artistry, culture, and resilience.

Beyond the stage, Bogdanovich and his team has remained steadfast supporters of social initiatives in education, youth empowerment, and community building — efforts that mirror the AFJ’s mission of service.

“None of this would be possible without my incredible team — the dreamers, the doers, the believers who help turn vision into reality,” he added. “Jamaica is a land of champions, and this recognition is truly for the people who inspire me every day.”

For Bogdanovich, the recognition represents a renewed call to action.

“This is not just about past achievements, it’s about what comes next,” he said. “There’s still so much more to do for Jamaica, for music, and for our people.”

Henzell received the prestigious International Achievement Award in recognition of his extraordinary leadership and unwavering commitment to community development and social upliftment in Treasure Beach and beyond.

The night’s celebration featured captivating live performances by Agent Sasco, the Alpha School of Music band, and DJ Max Glazer, who kept the energy high at the after-party.

A delightful surprise came when Minister Marion Hall took to the stage for a brief performance.

Guests were treated to fine dining, inspiring speeches, and moving tributes that underscored the AFJ’s mission to empower Jamaica through philanthropy, education, and sustainable development.

The AFJ Gala continues to serve as one of the most prestigious platforms recognising individuals who embody excellence and service to Jamaica.
