Garvey Maceo, McGrath and Glenmuir start daCosta Cup Round of 32 with wins

Defending champions Garvey Maceo High, McGrath High, a finalist last season and Glenmuir High, all scored good wins as the Round of 32 in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition got underway on Saturday.

Garvey Maceo cruised to a 3-0 win over Old Harbour High, McGrath High beat Morant Bay High by the same margin, while Glenmuir High snapped a three-game winless run to beat Alphansus Davis High 4-1.

Maggotty High pulled off a surprise, beating Rusea’s High 2-1 for the first time since 2019, while Maldon High got their first-ever second-round win, beating Ferncourt High 2-1.

At Garvey Maceo, Malik Robinson, Taddeus Flemmings and David McIntosh all scored for the champions to take the lead in Group Seven after Paul Bogle High and Titchfield High played out a 2-2 draw in the other group game.

At Dinthill Technical in Linstead, Jimm Mitchell scored a double and Requelme Smith scored the other for McGrath High in their win over Morant Bay High in their Group Eight game.

Rusea’s High’s goalkeeper Rushann Peddie is beaten by a penalty kick from Maggotty High’s Ashanwi Daley in their ISSA daCosta Cup Round of 32 Group two game played at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Saturday, October 11th. Maggotty High won the game 2-1.

William Knibb Memorial also scored a win in Group Eight, edging a wasteful Central High 1-0 in Martha Brae.

After failing to win in their previous three games, Glenmuir High returned to winning ways as Orel Miller scored a brace and Orane Watson and Dunsting Cohen also scored in their 4-1 win over Alphansus Davis High to take the lead in Group Five.

Manchester High got by St Mary High 2-0 in the other Group Five game that was played in Mandeville, with goals from Jevohntae Gordon and Devontaye Vidal.

St Elizabeth Technical blew by Knox College 4-0 in their Group Four game as Maldon High beat Ferncourt High with two goals from Javaughn Anglin.

Maggotty High surprised many-time champions Rusea’s 2-1 with two second-half penalties, the first converted by Roshane Lewis in the 50th minute, but Rusea’s High responded a minute later when Cory Palmer fired home from close range. Maggotty High got the winner in the 88th minute when Ashanwi Daley converted a second penalty after Tiaunte Williams fouled a Maggotty High player in his own 18-yard box.

Ocho Rios High had the biggest winning margin of the day, hammering Petersfield High 7-1 to take the lead in Group two, with Robert Morris and Keneil Brown both getting braces while Dario James, Nathan Whitehouse and Tyrese Brown also scored.

Mannings School extended their perfect win record after edging Belair High 1-0 in their Group Three game played in Savanna-la Mar, with Kajaye Williams scoring the winner. Mannings School have won all nine games played without conceding a goal.

Cedric Titus High were beaten for the first time this season, outscored 3-2 by Frome Technical in Group One, their fourth straight Round of 32 loss after losing all three games last season.

Cornwall College took the lead after blanking Kemps Hill High 2-0 in the second game of a double header played at the Montego Bay Sports Complex. Nickane Brown gave Cornwall College the lead in the first half before second-half substitute Ameche Robinson scored the second to secure the points.
