The Travel Register takes flight in rural Jamaica
ROBERTSON...I’m looking to build trust with my clients, and once I build trust, I’m looking to grow.

The Travel Register takes flight in rural Jamaica

AFTER years of helping relatives and neighbours with travel paperwork, Sashenie Robertson, founder and CEO of The Travel Register, has officially turned her knack for assisting others into a business. Officially launched in June 2025, the home-based company marks her entry into the formal business landscape, a journey she says has been “long in the making”.

With a background in tourism, hospitality, and the airline industry, Robertson saw first-hand how difficult it can be for Jamaicans, especially those in rural areas, to access passport and visa services.

“I’m from the rural side of Jamaica. We don’t have a PICA office in my parish so people always seek help with these things, and I used to assist, then I added a visa application service,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

Located in St Elizabeth, The Travel Register provides passport renewals and visa application support to clients both locally and abroad. Most of her customers are Jamaicans in the Diaspora, especially those with expired passports who prefer the convenience of having their documents processed without having to travel home.

“With international clients delivery is the only option, and PICA uses DHL, so once their address is input it gets delivered to them overseas,” she explained.

Her transition into entrepreneurship wasn’t planned. During the COVID-19 pandemic Robertson was laid off from her job in the airline industry and began helping family and friends manage travel documentation. That informal start laid the foundation for what would later become her business, one she now proudly runs full-time.

“I’m probably the first person from my family to officially start a business,” she told the Sunday Finance with excitement.

While she describes the process as rewarding, Robertson admits that the journey hasn’t been without challenges. Educating clients about the importance of accurate documentation has been one of her biggest hurdles. Many clients, she explained, expect same-day results without realising how incomplete or incorrect details can delay processing. To manage this, she has started creating content with checklists on social media to guide clients through the process and help streamline operations. Working as a solo operator, Robertson handles every aspect of the business — from client communication to application tracking. While it can be demanding, she said it also allows her to maintain a more personal connection with each client. The Travel Register has grown organically, powered mainly by word of mouth and a growing following on
Instagram where she shares updates and travel tips. The company is now developing a website to make the service more accessible to international clients, improve booking, and to document submissions. Just three months in, Robertson has already assisted over 30 clients and continues to grow her customer base weekly. Though she operates fully online, Robertson envisions setting up a physical office in the future. For now, she intends to stay in the digital space to keep the business flexible and accessible to clients across the world. As for what’s next, she plans to expand her offerings and transform The Travel Register into a trusted travel service brand for Jamaicans at home and abroad.

“I’m looking to build trust with my clients, and once I build trust, I’m looking to grow,” she said.
