Caribbean Airlines appoints acting successor after CEO steps down
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Caribbean Airlines has appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) Nirmala Ramai as its acting chief executive officer (CEO), following the sudden resignation of Garvin Medera.
The board of directors announced Ramai’s appointment on Monday, noting that the leadership change is aimed at ensuring continuity, stability and accountability within the airline. It said the airline would continue to operate its full schedule without disruption.
In a statement, the board thanked Medera for his service and leadership. In his own statement, Medera thanked employees, partners and customers and wished the company well.
To guide the transition, the board said it would focus on five key initiatives: supporting employees, reviewing operations for efficiency, enhancing customer service, developing a sustainable growth plan, and conducting thorough audits of departments and processes.
The airline also reaffirmed a policy of prioritising internal candidates for career advancement before seeking external hires.
The board of directors said it remains committed to open communication with employees and stakeholders during the transition.
