WATCH: JFF, KSAMC sign MOU to waive advertising fees for matches in Kingston
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) under which the municipality will waive advertising fees for football matches hosted in the Corporate Area.
The signing took place on Monday at the KSAMC office in downtown Kingston, marking what both parties described as a significant partnership aimed at supporting national football development. The MOU will last for one year.
JFF president Michael Ricketts expressed enthusiasm about the agreement, telling Kingston’s Mayor Andrew Swaby that he was “super excited” about the collaboration and its potential benefits for the sport.
Mayor Swaby explained that the waiver represents a substantial financial relief for the federation.
“As part of this new agreement, the KSAMC will forgo all advertising costs associated with matches hosted within Kingston. Ordinarily, the JFF would be required to pay approximately $1 million per match in advertising fee,” he said.
He added that the gesture goes beyond financial support.
“The KSAMC is proud to stand with the JFF in this partnership. By removing advertising costs, we are investing directly in the success of our national team and affirming Kingston’s role as the home of Jamaican football. This is more than a financial gesture it’s a statement of confidence in our players and our national sporting potential.”
Ricketts, in turn, thanked the KSAMC for its support and reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to both social development and sporting excellence.
“We are very grateful that the JFF is intent on making the difference from a social perspective. We are in the process of qualifying for the World Cup. We have a very important game tomorrow,” he said, referencing the Reggae Boyz’s upcoming match. “We did lose a game on Friday, which hopefully has just delayed what we are about, but we are intent on winning the other three games and once we do that, then we will be in the World Cup next year.”
Mayor Swaby closed by encouraging the public to rally behind the national teams.
“The KSAMC encourages all citizens to rally behind the Reggae Boyz and Reggae Girlz ambassadors of our people, culture, and determination,” he said.
