Tivoli coach welcomes ‘important’ win over Harbour View
Tivoli Gardens FC scored a morale-boosting, come-from-behind 2-1 win over Harbour View FC in the Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League football match at Edward Seaga Sports Complex on Sunday.
After four minutes of action, Rohan Brown gave Harbour View the lead, stunning the home fans before they had settled in.
But Rodico Wellington nodded home from a free kick, pulling Tivoli Gardens level in the 29th minute before Barrington Pryce found the clincher in the 76th minute with a cheeky finish from a corner kick.
It was a crucial win for a Tivoli Gardens team battling with internal issues that saw the club President Ann-Marie Heron stepping down last week.
With just their second win of the season, Tivoli Gardens leapfrogged Harbour View into 10th spot on nine points.
Jerome Waite, the Tivoli Gardens head coach, said the vibes are right in the camp.
“This will is very important and it’s a welcome win. The vibes are very good and sometimes people lose focus. But it’s the coaches’ duty to keep them on track,” he said.
“It’s about football. We just have to ensure that we keep these players in the right frame of mind to continue to play the Premier League.”
Waite added: “Today’s game wasn’t easy. Harbour View, as you know, were coming off a win and it boosted their confidence coming here and as a result, we started very slowly and gave up a goal in the fourth minute.
“At half-time, when I talked to the team to get them regrouped, you could see the difference in the second half.”
A sombre looking Byjeon Thomas, head coach of Harbour View, was left disappointed after taking the lead in a dominant first-half display.
“I think Tivoli wanted it more than us. They didn’t outplay us, but at the end of the day, they showed more effort. After we conceded the equaliser, the lads dropped their heads,” said Thomas.
Harbour View’s inconsistent start to the season has continued, with them suffering their third defeat from seven games to be in 11th spot on eight points. However, Harbour View coach, Thomas, is not worried.
“[It’s] not where we want to be, [but] it’s a marathon, not a sprint. We just continue work and get things right and we push from there.
“It’s early, there are no places up for grabs right now, what we want right now is consistency, then at the end of the season we talk about that,” said Thomas.
League leaders Montego Bay United blanked Molynes United 2-0 courtesy of a double from Jourdain Fletcher in the 45th and 58th minutes.
Montego Bay, with its sixth win from eight games, moved to 19 points, four clear of Racing United, who whipped Spanish Town Police 3-0 to be on 15 points.
Molynes United, with their third defeat of the season, remained in 13th spot on five points, while Spanish Town Police are at the bottom in 14th position with two points.
At Drax Hall, home team Mount Pleasant FA dismissed Chapelton Maroon 3-1 to move to seventh spot on nine points, and with two games in hand.
Chapelton, who started the season with three wins, have now lost their fourth game and remain in sixth spot with 10 points.
The game between home team Dunbeholden FC and Arnett Gardens was not played due to a waterlogged field. Arnett are in eighth spot with nine points from six games, while Dunbeholden are 12th with seven points from six games.
