US passport drops out of top 10 in global ranking, Jamaica holds steady at 60
KINGSTON, Jamaica — For the first time in its 20-year history, the United States passport has fallen out of the top 10 in the Henley Passport Index, one of the world’s most recognised rankings for measuring passport strength.
The index, which evaluates the travel freedom offered by passports based on the number of destinations their holders can enter without a prior visa, reflects shifting global mobility trends.
While the US experienced a historic drop, Jamaica maintained its position at 60th place, with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 87 countries.
The Henley Passport Index is based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The rankings often reflect diplomatic relations, economic developments, and visa policy changes among nations.
