KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Beryllium employee implicated in the recent theft of cash from one of the security company’s armoured trucks has been apprehended.

The company said he was captured as a result of joint operations between the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Guardsman’s Internal Investigation Unit.

The undisclosed sum of cash was reportedly stolen on Saturday. The police on Thursday confirmed that an employee was being investigated as a suspect.

In a statement on Friday, the company extended their appreciation to the JCF whose swift and decisive action led to the apprehension of the suspect. Beryllium also commended the tireless efforts of its internal investigation and security teams, who worked closely with law enforcement to ensure that no stone was left unturned in the pursuit of justice.

“This was not simply about recovering stolen funds; it was about defending the integrity of the hundreds of men and women who put their lives on the line every day to provide essential services to Jamaica’s businesses and banks,” said David Whittaker, group managing director, Guardsman Group of Companies.

“Beryllium stands unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that any individual involved in wrongdoing or unethical practices connected to our company faces the severest form of justice available under the law. We will never tolerate actions that undermine the trust, safety or reputation of our team or our clients,” he continued.

Beryllium reiterated that the isolated actions of one individual do not reflect the “professionalism, discipline and dedication” of the company’s wider team.

It said it continues to review and reinforce its internal controls and security protocols to maintain the highest level of safety and operational integrity across the island.

As investigations continue, Beryllium said it remains fully committed to transparency, collaboration with the authorities and ensuring that justice is delivered in full.
