KINGSTON, Jamaica — In honour of World Mammography Day, the Jamaica Cancer Society is offering 250 free mammograms on October 17, as it makes an appeal for funds towards a new mammography machine.
Executive Director Jamaica Cancer Society, Roshane Reid-Koomson shared that these mammography machines will be made possible courtesy of the Jamaica National Group and the National Health Fund.
This will be done under the theme for this year “ Catch it, check it, beat it” which promotes early detection.
Reid-Koomson used the opportunity to appeal to members of the public to make donations towards a new mammography machine for the society.
“ This year for breast cancer month the Jamaica Cancer Society has a special appeal to Jamaicans locally and abroad. We are seeking your help to fundraise J$50 million to purchase a new mammography machine,” she shared.
Koomson explained “This is because our current machine is approaching the end of its useful life and so we want to prepare to ensure that we can continue to offer the same high quality service that we have been offering for almost 70 years.”
She revealed that the Jamaica Cancer Society has already received pledges from two corporate donors who have pledged $6 million and has another $ 44 million to go.
