MBU, Racing clash atop JPL table
Leaders Montego Bay United (MBU) and unbeaten Racing United will meet in a Jamaica Premier League (JPL) top-of-the-table clash at the Montego Bay Sports Complex this evening at 7:00 pm.
Four points separate the two top teams as MBU are on 19 from eight games played while Racing, who are tied on 15 points with Portmore United, have played seven games.
Fourth-placed Waterhouse FC will host Dunbeholden United in the second game of a double header at Drewsland set to start at 5:30 pm following the 3:00 pm game between defending champions Cavalier SC and Spanish Town Police (STP).
In the other game Chapelton Maroons and Molynes United are set to meet at Turner’s Oval at 3:00 pm.
Racing, in their second season in the JPL, are yet to score against Montego Bay United in three meetings last season, losing twice and drawing their only meeting in Montego Bay but have scored 14 goals so far, second only to their opponents today.
The Anthony Patrick-coached team snapped a three games 0-0 run to beat STP 3-0 last weekend and will be hoping Giovanni Cunningham and Tajay Grant both on three goals each can help them extend their unbeaten run.
MBU returns home after back-to-back away wins to Chapelton and Molynes and will be hoping to unlock a defence that has not given up a goal in four games.
Jourdain Fletcher, who scored a double last weekend to take over with five goals, will be on the hunt for his first goals against Racing after failing to score against them last season, picking up two yellow cards instead.
Dwight Merrick, who has four goals, and Jahmari Clarke, who has three to his credit so far, will also be seeking to help their team extend their lead at the top of the table.
Waterhouse FC are coming off back-to-back draws and have won just once in their last five outings and will hope for some relief against 12th-placed Dunbeholden who were edged 1-0 by Harbour View in their last game two weeks ago.
Dunbeholden have, however, picked up all seven points earned so far in their last five games and will hope they can improve their record of two wins in their last five games against Waterhouse.
In the first game, champions Cavalier SC will be hoping to rebound against Spanish Town Police after losing 4-2 against Portmore United — the most goals they had conceded in a game since February 2024 when they lost to US Major League team FC Cincinnati in a Concacaf Champions Cup game.
Spanish Town Police are rock bottom in the points table with as many red cards as goals scored and could be put to the sword by Cavalier who needs to start winning consistently.
At Turners Oval both hosts, Chapelton and Molynes, need to win. Chapelton have lost their last three while Molynes are yet to win a game all season.
