When reggae and dancehall artiste Ras Pylott wanted to craft a song that brought energy, vibes, and celebrated Caribbean culture, he called on experienced and prolific producer/engineer Dale “Dizzle” Virgo.

They collaborated on the song Get Lift, which was released in July via DZL Records.

“Get Lift was inspired by the energy and vibes of the dancehall scene — the connection between music, movement and attraction. It captures that moment when someone’s presence elevates you, literally giving you lift. It also celebrates Caribbean culture and good vibes,” Ras Pylott told the Jamaica Observer.

Virgo has produced or engineered several songs by a long list of acts including Drake, Divine Brown, Christopher Martin, Queen Ifrica, Agent Sasco, and Kim Nain.

Ras Pylott described the experience working in the studio with Virgo.

“It was an incredible experience. Dale brings a deep understanding of reggae/dancehall production with modern techniques. The Dizzle Lab is professional yet creative. Dale’s attention to detail brought Get Lift to life. He’s a true collaborator,” said Ras Pylott, who is also quite pleased with the reception to Get Lift.

“The reception has been amazing. The song has been playing consistently on Jamaican radio and getting requests from DJs for their sets. That organic support shows the track resonates and has authentic dancehall energy that connects with the culture.”

Over the past few months, Ras Pylott has increased his musical output by releasing several songs, including
Rose of Sharon and Rich.

Though now residing in California for the past 8 years, Ras Pylott (real name Paul Briggs) is from the district of Parottee in St Elizabeth.

“Music for me began as a kid at church concerts performing poems and singing. I first started singing covers of other people’s songs, adding my own melodies and lyrics. Then I got into sound system culture, influenced by King Jammy, Killamanjaro, King Shango, Flex, and Sav. That fraternity shaped my foundation,” said Ras Pylott.

Ras Pylott is keen on releasing songs with conscious messages while keeping it true to the roots of Jamaican music.

“I bring a unique blend of conscious reggae and dancehall with spiritual themes and cultural storytelling. Traditional reggae elements with modern production, strong vocals, biblical/spiritual references. Authenticity and music that uplifts while honouring the Jamaican roots and inspiring others while making a meaningful contribution to the culture. Music that moves people physically and spiritually, while building a timeless catalogue,” he said.
