Final two daCosta Cup round of 16 places to be decided
HAYES, Clarendon — The final two qualifiers for the round of 16 in the ISSA daCosta Cup should be decided Monday following the rescheduled Group 1 game between joint leaders Frome Technical and Kemps Hill High at Wembley Centre of Excellence, set to start at 1:00pm.
The match had been originally scheduled to be played along with the other final set of round of 32 games at Foga Road High but a waterlogged field forced the game to be postponed.
Three schools, including leaders Cornwall College, are in contention for the two places with the 12-time champions having a foot in the third round after their 13-1 beating of hapless Cedric Titus High to join Frome Technical on six points but with a plus 13 goal difference. Kemps Hill are on three points.
The 14 teams that have already secured their places in the Round of 16 are Ocho Rios High and Maggotty High from Group 2, Christiana High and Mannings School from Group 3, St Elizabeth Technical High and Maldon High from Group 4, Glenmuir High and Manchester High from Group 5, Dinthill Technical and Clarendon College from Group 6, defending champions Garvey Maceo High and Old Harbour High from Group 7 and McGrath High and William Knibb Memorial from Group 8.
Frome Technical need only a point to win the group with seven points and advance along with Cornwall College as the runners-up. A win for Kemps Hill High would however see them through as even if they win by a goal, they would tie Frome Technical on six points and a goal-
difference of one, but they would hold two tie-breakers, more goals as well as head to head results.
Both teams are coming off good wins on Wednesday.
Frome Technical defeated Cornwall College 2-1 at Llandilo, handing them their first loss of the season and becoming the first team to score more than a goal in any game this season against the Hector Wright-coached side. In the their first game, Frome had outscored Cedric Titus 3-2 at William Knibb.
On Wednesday, Kemps Hill came from behind to beat Cedric Titus 6-4, rebounding from their 2-0 loss to Cornwall College in the opening game of the round.
Ricardo Dean lead Kemps Hill with a hat-trick while Shemar Daley got a double in the win.
