Watson, DaCosta dominate with four winners at Caymanas Park
Owner Carlton Watson and trainer Jason DaCosta celebrated a memorable day at Caymanas Park on Sunday, securing four wins in a standout showing on the nine-race card.
Their crowning glory came with Dothraki, who claimed victory in the $1.25-million Vassel “Jolly Man” Najair Memorial Trophy, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over five and a half furlongs (1,100m).
Under Robert Halledeen’s skilled riding, Dothraki made his move early, surging to the front of the field going into the half-mile (800m) turn ahead of Incredible Jo (Raddesh Roman) and A Gift From Ben (Ramon Nepare). Although he was pressed by his two pursuers approaching the distance, Dothraki maintained his dominance, crossing the finish line a length and a quarter ahead of Digital One (Dane Dawkins) and Teflon Don (Shaheem Gordon).
The win was a demonstration of Dothraki’s speed, class, and endurance, as he completed the race in an impressive 1:05.4 (23.2 x 47.1 x 59.3). This victory not only highlights Dothraki’s current form but also signals his intentions for the Mouttet Mile in December.
Watson and DaCosta’s other winners were Midnight Traveller (Halledeen) in the second race, Mineola (Clive Lynch) in the sixth race, and H Two O (Halledeen) in the seventh race.
The three-day Heroes’ Day racing carnival comes to a close on Monday. First post is set for 11:35 am.
