Big Buzz proves his class in Louis Hitchins Memorial Cup
IN a bold, front-running effort Big Buzz, conditioned by Ray Phillips and ridden by Eric Haughton, outlasted his rivals to claim victory in the $1.1-million Louis Hitchins Memorial Cup at Caymanas Park on Saturday, October 19, 2025.
The Restricted Allowance II contest, which featured native-bred three-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upward (maidens), was run over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).
From the early stages Big Buzz was right in the mix, matching strides with Quantum Star — ridden by Romario Spencer — as they navigated the clubhouse turn and onto the main track. As the field approached the six-furlong (1,200m) mark
Big Buzz asserted himself, taking the lead and setting a brisk pace.
Though challenged in the stretch Big Buzz demonstrated his determination and class, holding off the advances of Pretty Brown Ting, ridden by Jerome Innis, and Alchemy of Souls, piloted by Robert Halledeen. In the end, Big Buzz’s strength and endurance paid off as he crossed the finishing line a half-length ahead of
Pretty Brown Ting, with Alchemy of Souls finishing third. The final time was 1:59.2 (25.3 x 50.2 x 1:16.4 x 1:43.4)
