Cancer, Tek Weh Yuhself!
Each #Pinktober — the popular name for Breast Cancer Awareness Month — many wear pink in support of the cause. Good intentions aside, however, there’s so much more! The overarching goal of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to spread the message about the disease and promote behaviour change for early detection of breast cancer, advocate for improved access to care, and honour persons with lived experience. This year’s theme, ‘Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters’, reinforces the fact that every breast cancer diagnosis is personal, and behind every diagnosis is a face and indeed, a story.
Cherane Heron, founder of My Cancer Essentials, has shared her cancer journey several times, but continues to do so in hopes of inspiring. Heron was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2020. “I was diagnosed with Stage 2B Her2+ breast cancer, and did a double mastectomy with reconstruction, chemotherapy, and 12 months of targeted treatment,” she tells
Tuesday Style Fashion (TSF).
“During the time spent awaiting treatment, I had a lot of time to reflect as well as interact with other patients. In doing so, a few things became clear. One being that I had to be positive throughout this process and treatment, and what better way to do it but find the lighter side,” she shares.
Hence the birth of her slogan: Cancer, Tek Weh Yuhself! Five years later, Heron — who runs a boutique that offers a unique approach to cancer care — commemorated #Pinktober2025, with the launch of her first line of slogan tees. “The slogan and design were done by My Cancer Essentials and registered with JIPO (Jamaica Intellectual Property Office) and are the first of many to come,” she explains. The T-shirts are available in shades of pink, in sizes small to extra large for males and females. The cropped styles are also popular. Other merch includes tote bags, made and printed in Jamaica.
Wear your Cancer, Tek Weh Yuhself merch proudly this October — and all year long. Because when we go pink, we grow hope.
