Supernatural Power dominates The Viceroy Trophy with classy win
…Richie Shakes boots home three winners
SUPERNATURAL Power (Cross Traffic – Urquia) continued to dazzle with her exceptional talent and class, securing a convincing victory in the $1.4-million The Viceroy Trophy main feature at Caymanas Park on Monday.
The three-year-old, American-bred grey filly Supernatural Power, trained by Philip Feanny, dominated the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward, winning by a comfortable margin of two lengths over one mile (1,600m).
Supernatural Power, ridden by Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas, clocked a time of 1:36.2 (23.4 x 46.2 x 1:11.1 x 1:23.3).
Breaking smoothly from the gates Cardenas wisely held his mount back, allowing Mamma Mia (Jerome Innis) and Major Danger (Dane Dawkins) to go by and set the early pace.
As the field navigated the backstretch Supernatural Power settled into a comfortable rhythm, maintaining her gallop while awaiting the perfect moment to strike. That moment arrived as she approached the half-mile (800m) turn where she began to surge forward, effortlessly gliding past her rivals.
Tiz Tok, ridden by Raddesh Roman, emerged as a formidable challenger, slipping into second place as Supernatural Power took the lead. But when Tiz Tok mounted a fierce challenge in the deep stretch Supernatural Power responded gallantly to Cardenas’s urgings, pulling away to secure a convincing victory.
Tiz Tok finished second, some 19¾ lengths in front of Major Danger who finished in third place.
Meanwhile, apprentice jockey Richie Shakes continued his impressive form as he piloted three winners on the 10-race card.
In the second race Shakes partnered with trainer Omar Williams’ Sparkling Fire to secure a convincing win. This was followed by another triumph in the fifth race during which he rode Bobbytwobad, trained by Robert Ffrench, to victory. Shakes rounded out his hat-trick in the ninth race, teaming up with trainer Marlon Pusey’s Natural Dancer to claim another well-deserved win.
Trainers Anthony “Baba” Nunes and Adrian Prince both saddled two winners each on the card.
Nunes saddled Easy Money in the third race and Crown Chaser in the fourth race. Both Easy Money and Crown Chaser were ridden by Dane Dawkins.
Prince was successful with Whisky (Tyrese Anderson) in the eighth race and James (Raddesh Roman) in the 10th and final event.
Racing continues on Saturday.
