Governor-General warns public of fraudulent investment scams
KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Office of the Governor-General (OGG) is alerting members of the public about a series of fraudulent videos and messages circulating online claiming that Governor-General, Sir Patrick Allen is promoting investment opportunities.
“His Excellency is not connected in any way with these or any other investment schemes, trading systems, or financial products. The Office of the Governor-General has no contact or relationship with any group or person involved in these promotions,” the OGG in a statement on Wednesday.
The fraudulent messages reportedly mention names like the Automated Trade Vector AI System and JMI Trader Platform, advising individuals to invest around J$40,000, promising huge profits of J$1 million to J$3 million per month.
The videos also claim that the platforms have been checked or approved by the Bank of Jamaica, scientists, and economists, and that they are in high demand.
The OGG said the statements are false and misleading. Further, the OGG advised there is also no such person as a “project operator” who will call anyone after signing up, please ignore such calls or messages.
The OGG also noted the circulation of an online article promoting the “Petrojam Profit Project,” which falsely claims to have been launched by Prime Minister Andrew Holness and promises earnings of J$50,000 per day. It said this claim is also completely fabricated and has no affiliation with the Government of Jamaica.
Members of the public are strongly advised to exercise caution when viewing or sharing online content and to verify the authenticity of financial opportunities before engaging.
