Manning Cup second run kicks off
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The much-anticipated Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Wata Manning Cup second round of 16 kicks off today with six games across three groups, as teams begin their quest for quarter-final spots.
There will be two double-headers, one at the Stadium East where Excelsior High tackle Wolmer’s Boys’ at 2:00 pm before defending champions Kingston College face Hydel High at 4:00 pm.
At Waterhouse Mini-stadium, last season’s beaten finalist St Catherine High take on Vauxhall High at 2:00 pm before Tivoli Gardens play St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) at 4:15 pm.
Former champions St George’s College will host Charlie Smith High at Winchester Park at 3:00 pm and Campion College travel to Calabar High for a 3:00 pm assignment.
Following the first round, 16 teams advanced to the second round and were placed into four groups.
Group 1 consists of Excelsior High, Tivoli Gardens High, St Andrew Technical High and Wolmer’s Boys. KC heads Group 2 and will face Calabar High, Campion College and Hydel High.
Group 3 has St Catherine High, St George’s College, Charlie Smith High and Vauxhall High while Group 4 contains Mona High, Jamaica College and St Jago High and Eltham High.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-final.
With that in mind, the schools will be hoping to secure their first points in what is expected to be some intriguing battles.
