#EyeOnMelissa: Petrojam has enough fuel to ride out storm, says Vaz
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz says Jamaica’s state-owned oil refinery Petrojam has confirmed sufficient fuel supplies and has activated all refinery emergency systems as the country prepares for Tropical Storm Melissa as it moves closer to the island.
“[We have] over two weeks’ worth of refined products and 10 days’ worth of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) following the storm,” Vaz said.
He was speaking at a special Jamaica House media briefing held Thursday morning to update the country on the state of preparation and readiness for the approaching weather system which is expected to dump several inches of water on parts of the country that are already saturated from several weeks of persistent rainfall.
Vaz said Petrojam’s loading facilities in Kingston and Montego Bay will have extended opening hours to facilitate pre-storm deliveries.
Additionally, he said Jamaica Aircraft Refueling Services is fully stocked with jet fuel and aviation gasoline to ensure continuous aircraft refueling.
