#EyeOnMelissa: Tropical Storm Melissa slowly moving across the Caribbean
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a warning for Jamaica as Tropical Storm Melissa continues to move slowly across the Caribbean, threatening to bring prolonged weather conditions to the island early next week.
According to the NHC’s latest advisory, Melissa’s slow forward motion is expected to result in a multi-day period of damaging winds and torrential rainfall, raising the likelihood of flash flooding and numerous landslides.
“Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion,” the NHC said in its bulletin.
The NHC said additional watches and warnings for Jamaica and surrounding islands may be issued over the weekend as Melissa draws closer.
Residents are advised to stay tuned to official updates from the National Hurricane Center, the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, and ODPEM for the latest information and safety instructions.
