Trainer Anthony Nunes cautiously optimistic about Sir Don’s progress
Trainer Anthony “Baba” Nunes is taking a measured approach with promising two-year-old American-bred chestnut colt Sir Don, who has won his first two starts with authority.
After an impressive performance on Saturday, October 18, 2025, clocking a speedy 1:06.0 in the $1.09-million Princess Popstar Trophy over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m), Nunes is focused on keeping Sir Don healthy and in good spirits.
“He’s won both starts with authority. The 1:06.0 clocking on Saturday shows he’s moving forward. Along with the team at the stables I will be working overtime to ensure that Sir Don is kept healthy and in good spirits,” Nunes said.
While Sir Don’s next start hasn’t been decided yet, Nunes mentions the colt has two or three opportunities remaining in the year.
“As to when he will race again, that has not been decided as yet, but he has two or three opportunities remaining in the year. For now we are focused on keeping him sound and settled,” Nunes noted.
Ridden by Raddesh Roman, Sir Don broke cleanly at the start and settled on the front end ahead of God’s Plan (Dane Dawkins) and Tia Maria (Romario Spencer) going into the half-mile (800m) turn.
Sir Don then began to widen his advantage with each stride. He crossed the line 11½ lengths clear of God’s Plan and
Tia Maria. Sir Don, God’s Plan, and Tia Maria are owned by Oakridge Farm.
