#EyeOnMelissa: Disruption to vector control activities likely
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Health & Wellness (MOHW) is advising the public that vector control activities are likely to be temporarily disrupted, following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
This includes fogging, larviciding, and community inspections.
In a public service announcement MOHW shared that with the anticipated significant increase in the mosquito population post event, members of the public are encouraged to stock up on repellant to protect themselves from mosquito bites. They should also:
- Wear protective clothing such as long sleeves and pants.
- Install screens on windows and doors.
- And increase their vigilance in identifying and destroying mosquito-breeding sites by, among other things, punching holes into old cans and covering water drums.
