#EyeOnMelissa: JPS says 275 customers without electricity
There were 275 customers of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS without electricity as of 9:00 Saturday morning.
Energy Minister Daryl vaz shared the information during a special press briefing at Jamaica House.
He said there were 95 customers in the western end of the island, 40 in central Jamaica and 140 in the eastern section of the island.
“There are no widespread outages at this time. Each outage addresses on average two customers [with] the major cause of outages being trees on lines, with the high soil saturation level due to the high soil saturation levels,” Vaz explained.
He highlighted that the light and power company has roughly 550 persons positioned across the country, including JPS employees, local contractors and overseas line workers, 71 of whom are already on the island.
“There are no major incidents currently on the electricity system, the system is stable and JPS has been responding accordingly,” Vaz assured.
