#EyeOnMelissa: Sangster International Airport to close at noon Sunday
ST JAMES, Jamaica – MBJ Airports Limited (MBJ), operators of the Sangster International Airport (SIA) in Montego Bay, advises that subject to weather conditions, the airport will remain open up to 12:00pm Sunday to accommodate flight operations.
“The airport will then temporarily close at 12:00 PM to ensure safety during the storm’s passage,” MBJ said in a press release, adding that some airlines are adjusting their schedules to facilitate earlier or additional flights.
Passengers are being urged to contact their airlines directly for details on changes to schedule operations and to adjust their reservations as necessary and confirm their flight status before travelling to the airport.
Airline information can be found on the MBJ website (www.mbjairport.com) at International Airlines – Montego Bay Jamaica Airport.
Following the hurricane, a comprehensive assessment of the airport will be conducted to determine when it is safe to resume operations, MBJ said, noting that updates will be communicated promptly.
“The safety and well-being of our passengers and staff remain our utmost priority and all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure a swift and safe resumption of operations once the hurricane has passed,” MBJ stated, noting that it continues to monitor the situation and will provide further updates about any changes to flight operations.
