Play Station domino initiative set to revolutionise Jamaican education
IN a bid to boost educational standards across the island, the National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB) is poised to launch its groundbreaking Play Station initiative by year’s end, introducing dominoes and other engaging activities to schools islandwide.
According to Humbert Davis, president of the NADB, the initiative seeks to harness the power of play to enhance learning outcomes, promote critical thinking, and foster social skills among students.
“We are in the process of establishing a Play Station in schools, specifically in primary and basic schools, by the end of this year. This is where everyone can understand. and the children can now know how to play, when to play, where to play, and why to play,” Davis explained to the Jamaica Observer.
The Play Station initiative, according to Davis, aims to bring a fresh approach to learning, making it more interactive and enjoyable for students. He said by incorporating dominoes and other fun activities the programme hopes to make a positive impact on the educational landscape in Jamaica.
“The initiative will not only focus on academic development but also on the overall well-being of the students, promoting a healthy balance between studies and play,” he said.
Davis emphasised the importance of play in childhood development, highlighting its role in shaping young minds and promoting academic excellence.
“We’re not just teaching dominoes, we’re teaching life skills. Our children will learn how to problem-solve, communicate effectively, and work together as a team. These skills will benefit them, not just in academics but in all areas of life,” Davis noted.
“The NADB’s innovative initiative is expected to benefit students across Jamaica, providing them with a unique opportunity to develop essential skills in a fun and engaging way. When established in schools we will be monitored and evaluated to ensure its effectiveness,” Davis added.
Davis said this demonstrates NADB’s commitment to promoting education and development through innovative means.
“We’re committed to making a positive difference in the lives of Jamaica’s children. With Play Station we’re confident that we can help shape the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators,” Davis ended.
