#EyeOnMelissa: DCS says necessary measures taken to protect inmates and wards
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is reassuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard the lives and well-being of inmates and wards as the country prepares for the impact of Hurricane Melissa.
According to the department, comprehensive emergency preparedness plans have been activated across all correctional institutions to ensure the safety and security of inmates, wards and staff.
In alignment with these plans, all visits to correctional institutions have been suspended until further notice.
The DCS said it remains vigilant and fully committed to maintaining order and care during this period.
“Our officers and staff are on high alert and continue to work around the clock to ensure that safety protocols are observed and that the welfare of all individuals in custody is prioritised,” it said.
