‘Melissa baby’ delivered safely amid hurricane conditions — McKenzie
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Amid the battering winds and heavy rains of Hurricane Melissa, a baby was safely delivered under emergency conditions on Tuesday.
Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie made the announcement on Wednesday at a special media conference to update the nation following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
“We want to commend the team who responded to that,” the minister said, deeming the baby to be a “Melissa baby”.
He further noted that two additional deliveries took place during the hurricane. In those cases, one mother is reported to be resting comfortably, while the other remains under observation at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital.
“We are a great country and despite our challenges, we rise to the occasion,” Minister McKenzie said.
