Santa Cruz resident says hometown is ‘unrecognisable’
ST ELIZABETH , Jamaica — A resident of Santa Cruz described the devastation left behind by Hurricane Melissa as “unimaginable”, saying parts of his hometown are now unrecognisable.
Yushaine Morgan, attorney-at-law and resident of Santa Cruz was wearing a “I love Santa Cruz” shirt when Observer Online caught up with him.
He shared that he wore this shirt as a symbol of hope.
“What we went through last night, yesterday is beyond what we would have imagined no matter how badly we could think things would have gone,” said Morgan.
He added, “There are parts of my town that I cannot recognise. There are roads that are no longer roads…So many persons have lost their houses, so many people have lost motor vehicles, animals, businesses have been destroyed, roofs have just take off.”
Morgan said he is devastated and unsure as to where they will begin in regards to repairs.
Despite the severe damages done, Morgan said, “I have no desire of ever vacating.”
