#MelissaAftermath: Near chaos at service stations in St James
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The few petrol stations that opened in Montego Bay, St James on Thursday have come under heavy pressure from buyers.
Motorists and residents, many armed with containers, converged on these locations in a frantic effort to secure petrol or diesel and maintain essential activities.
One individual explained that they needed the gasoline to run their generators which has become a major part of their lives currently.
“Without the gas, we don’t have any light and ting,” she shared.
A gas station on Union Street in the town saw individuals come to near blows as they tried to secure their bit of the commodity.
“All machete people draw because a the gas thing,” one man familiar with the events on Thursday morning told Observer Online.
Up to late afternoon, long lines were at the Thrifty Gas Station in Rose Hall and others as individuals waited to get their cars and containers filled up.
