‘Scrubba’ Williams loyal to McKay Security’s sports programme
ROHAN “Scrubba” Williams was overcome with joy as he lifted the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association Business House Challenge Cup for the Raymond Quallo Memorial Trophy after a 5-1 victory over division one league champions, RJRGLEANER at Constant Spring Sports Complex recently.
Hired close to a decade ago when McKay Security embarked on a programme to be a top-tier division one business-house team, midfielder Williams remains assigned to the stock-management section of the security firm, passing up vacancies and promotions for the love of football, which only workers from that department are afforded time off for to train and compete.
Williams has been a professional footballer for years, always putting his career first, whether Premier League, parish-association or business-house football.
“Working in stock management is very physical but allows me to follow football, my first love,” Williams said. “McKay Security is serious about developing footballers and the sport. Several of my teammates have also declined promotion because this section of the company allows for us to play football without it affecting our pay.”
The McKay Security sports programme is actively involved in national football, primarily with three parishes, Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, St Thomas and aiming at masters leagues.
Jason McKay, chief executive officer, McKay Security, reminded that his firm’s sports programme sponsored Jamaica’s dragon-boat team to the recent Bahamas Dragon Boat Festival.
“Our mainstay sponsorship is Jamaica’s combined martial arts team, which recently returned with 12 medals from the October 15-19 International Sports Kick-Boxing Association’s Amateur Member Association World Championships 2025 in Brisbane, Australia,” McKay said.
McKay Security also sponsors two parish football associations, Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) and St Thomas Football Association in addition to inking kit and gear deals with dozens of teams in the St Catherine Football Association (SCFA).
The sport-loving businessman owns major shares in two football teams across parish associations, New Raiders of SCFA and KSAFA’s Meadhaven of which he is also president.
“By being an athlete participating in martial arts, rugby and pistol-shooting, I realised the incredible benefits of sponsorship to both athlete and sponsor,” he said. “I dedicated my company to ensure that its marketing arm would be committed to focus its budget on sports sponsorships.
“It became a comparative of the use of the dollar for traditional advertising as opposed to being the face of a sportsman, sportswoman, a team or sporting body. Traditional advertising was no match.”
