Canadian-born dancehall artiste ready to embrace heritage with bold new single
With Jamaican blood pulsing through her veins, Canadian-born songstress Cegie says she’s ready to shake up the music scene with her new single, So Mi Like Dat.
The entertainer, whose parents are Jamaican, is embracing her boldest era yet as the track is expected to explore her flirtatious side with her stepping deeper into the dancehall realm.
“The inspiration for my latest song came from me wanting to do something that was more sexual and raw dancehall,” she told the Jamaica Observer, outlining that the move marks her artistic evolution.
The Winnipeg-raised performer, who previously captured fans with the smooth tones of her debut single Touch Me, said her latest track is a daring follow-up.
“In this song I’m channelling my feminine energy. Touch Me was more of a flirty song, clean to the ears,” she said. “I wanted to show people a different side of me — a bolder side of my artistry.”
Set for release on Friday, October 31, So Mi Like Dat will be available on all major digital and streaming platforms.
Having gained enormous support on the local circuit courtesy of her first single, which was produced by Trizo of KonseQuence Muzik Group, known for collaborations with stars like Mavado, Teejay, and Beenie Man, the entertainer says she hopes to continue growing her fan base with the latest track.
She said her aim now is to carve out a space, both in Jamaica and across Canada.
