Main Mistress delivers in style, secures Announcers’ Trophy victory
Trainer Peter-John Parsard’s Main Mistress (Mo Town – Timetobegone) proved her class on Saturday, October 25, 2025, by winning Division One of the $1.25-million Front Runner-sponsored Caymanas Park Announcers’ Trophy.
Ridden by Omar Walker, the talented four-year-old American-bred dark bay/brown filly Main Mistress dominated the Restricted Overnight Allowance contest over 6 ½ furlong (1,300m), crossing the finish line a length and a half ahead of
Cookie Day N Night (Dane Dawkins) and Huntsman (Jahiem Anderson). The winning time was an impressive 1:20.0.
Although he had hoped for a more effortless win, Parsard was thrilled that Main Mistress had delivered, beating two worthy opponents.
“This horse has always been a very good horse. We knew she had a lot of talent, and honestly, we had expected to win today. We thought that she would have done it a little easier but a win is a win nonetheless and we are very happy that we were able to get the job done,” Parsard said.
The trainer attributed the success to his jockey Omar Walker, who followed aggressive instructions to the letter.
“I gave Omar [Walker] some very aggressive instructions and he followed them and rode her very well. I am happy with the ride and happy with the run,” he stated.
Main Mistress was now set to target the Grade 3 St Elizabeth Distaff on Jamaica Cup race day (November 8), but with Hurricane Melissa impacting the island, the event’s future is uncertain.
“When she goes back I will check her a bit because I was hoping that she would have done it a little bit easier but no matter what, she got the job done, and I’m very happy. Next will be the St Elizabeth Distaff, the Grade 3 race, on Jamaica Cup race day,” Parsard said.
Main Mistress broke off well and settled into a promising position, tracking Comehometome (Shaheem Gordon) and
Huntsman down the backstretch. As they approached the half-mile (800m) marker, she made her move, surging to the front of the field. Maintaining a strong gallop, she navigated the turn with ease.
In the stretch, Cookie Day N Night mounted a spirited challenge, but Main Mistress proved too strong. She battled on, holding off the late threat to secure the win.
“We were just able to get a race against horses that are in the same class [non-winner of an Overnight Allowance race] that haven’t managed to win yet. She hasn’t run much at the class, she ran one time in that condition race and she ran second, and so logically she was a horse that was going to be very dangerous today,” Parsard said.
